We continued our spring tradition of escaping the office for some fresh air and fresh thinking.

We were lucky to find the park in wild spring form.

As usual we made time for discussions about where we are on our scientific voyage. Here you can even see Alan making a point.

As we often do, we had a special guest this year. Jacob joined us to tell us about the role of theory in biology.

What a fine setting for Jacob’s presentation at the Grenadier Cafe. Although sudden cold weather eventually forced us in and postponed our art project, we really did manage to think about science without our computers for nearly the whole day! Like the spring blossoms, the lab retreat is only a moment. But I’m sure we will take some of the fresh thinking with us.

We couldn’t have done it without Mica, who stepped in for Bob as this year’s retreat organizer. Thanks also to everyone else who helped out (Ami, Andrew, Jacob) and to those who provided photos for this post.
